April 23rd-27th

Hello Parents & Students,

Welcome to another glorious week of school.  Please keep in mind that this Friday is an Early Release!  We will dismiss at 1:15pm.  For all of you that were able to make it out to Hunter Heritage...THANK YOU!  It was a profound success and everyone I talked to had only positive and encouraging things to say.  The Second Grade Team and myself especially enjoyed all the kids who came out to dunk us!

This week in....

Reading/Writing-We are continuing to work on researching our Famous Americans (for our Wax Museum projects).  Please be sure to turn in those forms so that I know what person your child is researching.  In addition, we are also going to researching reptiles this week.  In our Read Aloud, we have begun reading We Can't All Be Rattlesnakes which is a hilarious adventure story featuring...you guessed it, a snake.  However this snake is a Gopher Snake and not a Rattlesnake.  In class we are discussing the similarities between these reptiles and working to create visual aids (Venn Diagrams) to show what we have learned.  This week should be a lot of fun!

Math-In Math we have jumped back into another unit of measuring.  This time we are working in the metric system as well our United States Customary Units.  Today we made decimeter rulers and tomorrow...well the sky is the limit.  This is a mini-unit though so do not be surprised when we start a new topic next week!  I also wanted to thank all the parents who ensured that their students corrected any mistakes on their students' last quiz.  Second grade students have to demonstrate mastery with addition/subtraction of two and three digit numbers for the Third Grade.  With continued support I know that every students will be successful.

Science-Your son or daughter is learning about hertz, decibels, and various other sound terms.  We have played with a dog whistle and have a few more sounds experiments up our sleeves.  Be on the lookout for some wacky homework Tuesday night involving Science & sounds.
